H. Fishlove and Company began manufacturing novelties in Chicago in 1914. The company was founded by Chiam Fishelov, a recent immigrant from the Ukraine. The business was passed to his son, Irving, following Chiam's death in 1924. During the forty-four years that Irving was at the helm the company’s most famous gags and novelties were conceived. They included an unending number of gag boxes, Yakity-Yak the chattering teeth, Tricky Dogs the magnetic toy, Whoops the fake vomit, and Spectaculars the giant sunglasses.
In 1968, the company again changed hands when Irving died and his son, Howard, inherited the company. In the mid-1980’s Howard sold the company to FUN, Inc.
We are currently writing a book on this company, which will be available soon. Below are pictures of some of the items created by H. Fishlove.
